Word Count: 83, 780

ISBN: 978-1-77130-011-7

Editor: Karyn White

Cover Artist: Sour Cherry DesignsPlease welcome, author Danica Avet, to the blog.

AR: Tell me about this series, how did it come about?

DA: One day I just heard this crazy woman in my head (this happens a lot and no, I’m not insane). She kept talking about shoes and clothes and kicking ass and how much she hated working for the Greek gods. The next thing I knew, Roxana Love was born along with a whole world where the mythological pantheons still run things, but do it behind a corporate façade.

AR: Who is your heroine and what are some of the conflicts she faces?

DA: Roxana Love is a half-giant, half-maenad (her mother was a follower of the god of wine, Dionysus) who works as an enforcer for the Greek pantheon, otherwise known as Olympus, Inc. She acts as a bodyguard, babysitter, and investigator at times, especially when it comes to searching out the half-mortal children of the gods. She doesn’t want to work for Olympus, Inc., but they threaten to harm her brother and it turns out she’s damn good at her job.

Her biggest problem, after being blackmailed into working for the gods, is that she has trust issues. And can you blame her?

AR: Who is the hero and what conflicts does he face?

DA: Mason Landry is a bartender in south Louisiana. He’s an easy-going guy who has this problem with accidentally hurting people. He’s an orphan, was raised in foster homes, and joined a gang at a young age to have a feeling of belonging. Now that he’s older though, he wants to just live a regular life.

Then Roxana walks into his bar and turns his normal life upside down. And as if that isn’t enough, she tells him he’s the grandson of the king of gods, Zeus, and the son of Heracles, the greatest hero in Greek mythology. Yeah, he soo believes that!

AR: Where did you get the idea for this series? Who or what was your inspiration?

DA: I’m going to show my age here, but I’ve always been fascinated by mythology because of Clash of the Titans. Y’all remember the old one, right? With the really bad special effects and that guy with the deeply cleft chin? Yeah, I loved that movie. In fact, I can’t help but watch it when I can. I haven’t seen the new one yet though, so don’t tell me how good it is.

This series is my way of combining my love of mythology with my History degree and the modern world. The gods have powers. They have computers and cell phones. Yeah, bad combination ;)

AR: As a reader, what kind of books do you like to read?

DA: I read nearly every kind of romance I can get my hands on. I adore Kresley Cole, J.R. Ward, Shelly Laurenston, Charlotte Stein, Cherise Sinclair, Gena Showalter, and several other authors. Okay, so I read a lot!

IMMORTAL LOVE BY DANICA AVET

Olympus, Inc. Series, Book 1

Enforcer Roxana Love works for Olympus, Inc., the corporate face of the Greek pantheon, and knows better than to trust anyone in administration. Assigned to find and protect the newest member of Olympus, Inc., she figures it’ll be a grab and go job, until she discovers her assignment is the same man she slept with the night before. Keeping things professional will be near impossible when she can’t decide if she wants to kill or kiss him.

One night with Roxana isn’t enough for Mason Landry, despite how crazy she seems. However, he isn’t given much choice when he’s thrown through his window, attacked by mythical beings, and told he’s part-immortal. Roxana’s explanation is too fantastical to believe, but if it keeps him by her side, he’ll go along for the ride. Meeting gods and dodging monsters from lore is nothing compared to the fight he’ll have winning Roxana’s heart.

Auto Claim Central

Image Detail
Working in insurance, I've had to deal with many different kinds of auto claims. For the most part, the claims that come in are pretty straight-forward. The police report matches the insured's story of the incident. Sometimes, however, you do get a claim that is different. A few weeks ago I had a client call the agents office and report a claim. It seemed pretty straight-forward, our client was stuck and the other driver ran off. A typical hit and run, until the police report came in. According to the report, it was our client who struck the other car and took off. I don't know if our client thought she could get away by opening the claim and putting all the blame on the other person. Lately, we're had several auto claims where upon a little research we learn that our insured was at fault, and that they lied to us about the event and how it happened. One client actually told me (after it coming out that she lied about how the accident happened) that because she pays the premium she expects her insurance company to believe what she says without investigating the incident. Yeah! That is not how it works! When you pay for your auto insurance, you are NOT paying so that in case of an accident, your insurer will lie on your behalf. What you are paying for is the liability. If you have an accident and you are at fault, you are paying the insurance company to take care of things after the accident (to fix the other vehicle involved and to cover the medical bills of the people you injured) so that you don't get sued. Have you ever known anyone who lied during an auto claim? ----------------- PS: Blogger wouldn't let me do paragraphs today. That is why this post is so strangely formatted. Sorry. :-(

Guest Author: Allison Grey

Hello everyone! Today, I have guest author, Allison Grey, who is talking about her Half-Ling book series.

AR: Tell me about this series, how did it come about?

AG: Honestly, it just started on a complete whim, which is how most of my projects do! I had gotten into the habit of writing strictly horror fiction, and realized I felt like something was missing. It was at that moment I realized that I had been writing romance novels for years, for I believe every genre and every book has an element of romance, whether or not that is the focus. Love keeps us going. I browsed the publishers on a writer’s website, and I stuck on Evernight. I picked up one of their ebooks and read it that evening. The next day, I sat down in the front of the computer and began to write the first thing that came to mind. The next thing I knew, the Half-lings Series was born. I’m currently working on two books in a spin-off with a new hero and heroine. It takes place in the world of the Half-lings, but the world they create with each other is definitely a long-shot from the world of Reney Rose!

AR: Who is your heroine and what are some of the conflicts she faces?

AG: Reney Rose. I love her. She’s so different from myself, yet we seem to have a lot in common. I know I put a bit of myself into every one of my characters, and she is definitely part of my “smartass” persona manifested. Reney was a city girl, an intern at a fashion magazine, and was indubitably unprepared for the truth of the world she finds herself a part of. There are plenty of external conflicts with the Romanian vampire(s) she faces, but Reney grows on an emotional level more than anything. I loved seeing her progression from Book One to Book Three. I think on the most basic level, Reney learns that not only is she far stronger than she ever thought possible, she was ready for a change, all along. What she finds in her lover makes the entire new world she learns of worth fighting for. She makes several appearances in the next books, and is challenged once more at the hands of her younger sister, Margo Rose. Though Reney has certainly been through a lot, I think Margo may test her inner strength and concept of love more than anything she has ever faced.

AR: Who is the hero and what conflicts does he face?

AG: His name is Ahulani, and he’s a Half-ling (half-vampires, if I didn’t clarify!) from Hawaii. Unlike Reney, he grew up in the world of the Half-lings, and he guides Reney through the experience, which comes as quite a shock in her early thirties! Ahulani has always been a laid-back “nice guy” sort of a fellow, yet he carries a rage inside him that stems from the murder of his mother by the vampire Richard, aka Vladimir Popescu. The hatred consumes him at times, and contradicts everything he thought he knew about himself. He keeps finding himself in situations where he has to contain the fury toward Richard in order to fight for the greater good, especially when it comes to his love for Reney. In “Bloody Promises” he faces the greatest challenge of his life when he is forced to team up Richard in order to fight Marian Popescu, Richard’s cousin and the vampire that wants Reney and Ahulani’s daughter dead. His sense of humor also grows along the way thanks to the ever snarky Reney, and just as with my heroine, I have a special place in my heart whenever I re-read the pages and watch him develop and change.

AR: Where did you get the idea for this series? Who or what was your inspiration?

AG: I’ve always loved vampires, but I used to have a notion that I should stray away from anything popular. Now, I’ve budded alongside my hero, heroine, and even my villains (I admit, I love my bad guys dearly) to develop my own point of view and write what makes me happy. I never know where my inspirations come from. I just sit and write, and the story follows. The only downside to this is to watch carefully for plot holes, and thankfully, Evernight has really shaped me into a professional. I can catch a plot hole with my eyes closed. I think all of my inspirations come from an amazing world, and I’ll never stop reaching for it.

AR: As a reader, what kind of books do you like to read?

AG: I enjoy books on spirituality, philosophy, the paranormal, microbiology, true crime, and quantum physics/mechanics. I have a stack of books by the bathtub I’m stuck in all at once. I definitely do not read as much as I would like to, and I’m extraordinarily picky about my fiction selections, but I do enjoy fantasy and paranormal romance. It seems I get a new idea from everything I read, and dash off to the computer to start typing. Some of them turn into great things, but only if an idea haunts me into seven a.m. and drives me to the keyboard like a zombie do I know I’ve got a winner; a story and characters I’ll fall in love with, and always hold close to myself.

Thanks Allison for stopping by. And now, a little more about the series!

Half-lings Series, 1
Reney Rose looks like a fashion model, but actually spends her days editing real models into the famous So Glam Magazine. With a slew of jealous co-workers ready to burn her at the stake, Reney’s not sure she can take another day in the cubicle. Until she gets news of an intern’s dream come true—Richard Rogan, the dark and striking senior editor of So Glam, has chosen Reney to accompany him to Hawaii! Mr. Rogan has never even spoken to Reney, but his mere presence makes her weak in the knees.

Things get even more heated when she meets Ahulani, a gorgeous Hawaiian whom she feels strangely drawn to. Only, Ahulani has news for Reney. They’re both half-vampires, and Richard is an evil full vampire determined to drain her potent half-ling blood. Reney is falling fast for Ahulani, but will she be able to resist Richard’s hypnotically wicked lust?

Half-lings Series, 2
Reney Rose can finally accept that she's half-vampire, and she's just starting to get settled into Hawaii with her fellow half-ling and lover, Ahulani, but there's a tension in the air... There's no question that Richard, the powerful full vampire hell-bent on their destruction, is going to come back. Even worse, Reney doesn't know how to feel about her dangerous former boss, because even though she's a spell-breaker, there's something about Richard's spell she just can't seem to melt.

Until the phone call. Richard has kidnapped Reney's best friend, Jane. They must travel to Romania in order to save her, and face Richard head-on in his own territory... a dark place where Reney will discover that things aren't quite what they seem. But not only does the castle across the sea hold secrets for the half-lings, there are more lurking just outside its walls...

Half-lings Series, 3
Newly wed half-vampires Reney and Ahulani have just had their first child, and they couldn’t be happier…if they didn’t live in constant fear of the vampires Jane and Marian. The cousin of the vampire Richard, Marian is a notoriously sadistic intellectual who will stop at nothing to please his lovers. When the half-lings find out Jane will only be satisfied with the murder of their daughter, they must travel to the homeland of the vampires to try and make the first move in a horrifying race to save their daughter.

Only a head vampire stands a chance in a fight with Marian Popescu, and Reney can think of only one with any incentive to assist…. He wants his throne back. Reney wants her life back. But will their worst enemy really team up with them without turning on the half-lings himself?

Cover Artists

Besides being an author, I've always wanted to be a cover art designer as well. I know how to blend pictures, layer them, change some of the coloring, ect, ect. This past week, I finally made a few covers in the hopes that I could sell my skills to some publishers or authors.

I've wanted to share with you some of the designs I made. Check out my little cover art website: Angelic Designs

Those Who Can't, Teach

You know that saying "Those who can't do, teach it."? Lately, I've had a lot of people tell me how to live my life without them having to walk in my shoes. It's rather annoying when people, who don't even read, start giving me writing advice. Here is some of my "favorite"!

1. You can't write erotic romance. You can't possibly have that much experience. (Experience, huh? I should interview some of those authors who write about vampires. I wonder what kind of experience do they have to write in that genre?)

2. You should write YA because it sells better. (Okay, sure. Now can my YA characters be grown up and sexually active?)

3. You should write some BDSM where the hero rapes the heroine. (um, no! Not happening!)

But it's not just writing that they think they know all about. I've also had someone who has never held a job tell me how to work and how to make more money.

1. You should really save all the money you make. Don't spend it. (When is the last time you've seen me go shopping?! I'm not the one who needs a new bracelet every week.)

2. You should leave your job and find something much better paying. It shouldn't be that hard to find something. (Yes, because the job market is great right now and jobs grow on trees.)

Luckily, it's not just me this person has talked about work and money with. My mother got the greatest advise out there when it comes to money from this unemployed person.

1. You know, you should stop paying your mortgage and just live in that house until you're evicted. And then you can rent. It's much cheaper. ( Is that even logical? Sure, she will abandon this big four bedroom house that she has a low interest rate on and pays only around $750 a month. And find a crappy one bedroom apartment in a bad neighborhood for like $800 a month. I can see how that would save her money!)

Do you have people in your life who like to help you with their great advise?

A Whole Year Later

Today marks the one year anniversary that I've been working in insurance. When I started at that job, I knew absolutely nothing about insurance, selling, or the law. Now, I could say that I know a thing or two.

A lot has happened in that year. I got my license to sell personal and commercial insurance, I got divorced from my ex, moved into the apartment in mamma's basement, and now I'm planning to start my life over again.

Normally, after working a year in a certain place, I start thinking about where my life is going and where I want it to go. This time around, I'm in a respectable field as opposed to my prior job (waitressing). I also know a lot about insurance.

My goal now is to get my life and health license so I could expand on what I could sell. Wish me luck with that!

Who Let the Dumb Blonde Think?

Seriously! Who let me think and make decisions? Anyone?!

Lately, I've been chatting with several authors on Facebook when a few complained about some of the book review sites out there. You see, some of those authors are self-published, and most review sites don't review books that are self-pubbed. Then, there was an author who said her book couldn't find any review sites because the book is non-fiction, and clearly non-romance. Oh, how hard it is for those authors that don't write the HEA endings, or don't even write romance. With the exception of one or two review sites, they have to rely on friends and family to review for them.

So I started thinking (uh-oh, what is that burning smell?). I thought, what if I open up a review site that takes in more then just romance. Actually, a site that takes in everything! And after running my idea past a few people who seemed to really enjoy it, I decided to proceed with my new venue.

That is how Book Perfection Reviews has been born. I opened the site and put on a search for books and reviewers last Wednesday and within a few day had ten reviewers and thirty something books. The first review has gone live this morning.
